Thank you to all in this thread. I've been debating which streaming media player to get for a year. Now that WD finally got MLB.tv, the decision was made. I did the staples coupon/PM option w/ free...

I'm not sure if its still the case, but I believe Roku's still transcode all video where the WD-TV will direct play everything but .AVI's (at least with the default DLNA profile in Plex).

I agree with size. Slow boot time isn't really an issue though. Most people rarely fully power down a HTPC or WDTV.

Not that the older boxes didn’t have it... MLB.tv just reached an agreement with WDTV this spring, so it wasn’t available. Used to only be Roku, Apple TV, Boxee, etc. WD is a newly added device for...

I'll see if I can find it, but I think remember reading that the Plex app on a Roku will transcode everything...even if the codec is supported by Roku. I'm probably wrong though

Get your terminology correct. Are you talking about MBps or mbps? Mbps (megabits per second). MBps (megabytes per second). 1 Mbps = 0.125 MBps

You can do that with any product that exists. This being said I have never used it for streaming video of the LAN, my local media is just on a USB harddrive. With this setup I can say that it's very...

I would jump on this if it played Amazon videos. Although, the Roku XS does everything this WD TV does (well, almost if you ignore some of the local filetype limitations) but does more too.

Prob not, WDTV is not a very great streaming device. It has Netflix/Hulu/MLB on Demand and a bunch of others I've never used but it really shines as a local content media player, either from DLNA...

that depends. if one of your primary needs is to view locally stored content, get the WD. if that isn't a priority, than get Roku.

How are these better than the older model of WDTV Live? Just USB 2.0?
