Frankly I would argue with the IRS on that point and say the bank has misclassified it as a 1099-misc.

From all the bonuses I've received from banks, they have always issued me 1099-INT which I reported as interest income. OP did not state which 1099 s/he received.

I agree with the Pirate! I received one of those notices too (not a nice surprise) many years ago. Stuck it on line 2, never heard a word back from the IRS.
