Nice find. This would work as an entry level gamer and easily burn & rip video. Here is a youtube of someone playing Cyrus with this onboard video - ...

Old K8 dual core can playback 1080. This cpu would be over-kill without a GPU for that haha. But a passive 6450 would go good with it. The hard drive is the let down. I wouldn't use it for...

Always an AMD bundle never an i5 or heaven forbid i7.

the on board on 880g chipsets are sufficient for 1080p playback. This isn't a board that I would expect to break overclock world records with, but that chip should do 4.5ghz np.

This will handle just about anything you could throw at it. It's already faster than most of the i5 processors out there. With a good video card this would make a great gaming rig.

Thank you for the reply. I understand the benchmarking results, but is there a user experience difference between 180FPS and 300FPS? Or the upgrade was mostly for future games that might stress the...

I personally dont think about the future too much because I dont run a cpu more than 1yr usually before upgrading, but when it comes to AMD and intel CPUs , one game or app can favor one cpu over the...

Huh? First of all, fx4100 is as much a quad core CPU as an i3 is. It can process maximum 4 threads, but doesn't have 4 separate complete CPU units. Second of all, any quad core i5 will blow fx4100...

Quite a bit lower-end than I'd go, but probably good for family members who only do basic web browsing, email, etc. Throw in a passively-cooled graphics card (to save on heat, since this case only...

It depends on what model i3 you have, but I would say that the chances are good. This CPU will spank many older i5s and i7s, and is in the middle of the high power CPUs charted. Check it out.

There are no i3 quad cores :) What you're seeing is hyperthreading; a dual core with 2 threads per core. AKA 2 additional "virtual CPUs", according to Microsoft.

It could be used to make a decent gaming rig, but the FX-4100 is not faster than most i5's. It's arguably equal to the slowest 1st gen dualcore i5's like the i5-650.

Desktops are way easier to upgrade and maintain. And this would likely be faster than a notebook in that price range. I would guess that this would get more use and have a lower cost over time. ...

I've found this to be the case in recent builds. You can get amazing builds for dirt cheap if you're patient and vigilant. Indeed to compare a barebones or package deal against a string of 10 FP SDs...
