Well to get the top speed you have to have a UHS enabled camera...otherwise the top speed is not what your camera can run it at. Certain SanDisk cards don't have the UHS speed requirement

That mostly likely happens because the max file size (4.7 gb) on the sd card was achieved. That or the camera processor is overheating. These cameras are not meant for long term video recording.

I have the 30mb/s one for my 60D (same sensor as t3i) and burst rate in JPG gives me about a 30 pic buffer at 5fps, if I remember correctly. Its not really overkill, but anything better definately...

I used a USB 3.0 card reader (that does NOT support UHS-I) + USB 3.0 port. For both the Extreme 45mb/s -A21 and -X46, I get 45mb/s read and 43mb/s write, using CrystalDiskMark 5 x 50mb.
