IF the license came with your computer (Compaq OEM), then posts 2, 5, 6 and 7 are correct.
IF you have a retail license that you bought separately from the computer, then posts 3 & 4 are correct....

Compaq versions of OS are for that PC only and the same would hold true for Dell,HP,Lenovo version of an OS.

You will have to reactivate Windows after the installation but you should be able to use that install disk.
