Just an observation of the posts. Many that have the i5 something or other say the i7 doesn't oc well and performs about the same--for more money. I'd say that's under-performance.

It's L3 cache. As prev mentioned the 830 is a true Deneb processor the 840 is really a glorified Athlon x4, if you're overclocking the retail fan is not really a selling point.
