Assuming there's no platform limit...
In 2011 there was Battlefield 3 (visceral warfare) and Crysis 2 (cinematic empowerment) that were possibly the two most enjoyable FPSs this generation for me...

Oh it definitely does. Funny thing is, when I joined my cousins session it would freeze on me every 10 minutes or so but he joined mine over the weekend and we only had it freeze once(on his end).

I have recently really enjoyed the single-player campaigns of The Darkness 2 and Syndicate. Only about 5 hours each though.
Multiplayer I would suggest Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3.
