Agreed, unless the OP needs a lot of space. If he's an avid gamer and wants to have all his games on the SSD's, then it could be advantageous to have two of those120 giggers.

Understood. I've heard about the trim issue with RAID0 several times, and as I have seen no direct evidence of deterioration across 2 1/2 years, it makes me wonder just how long it takes for the...

That actually is about the normal speed. Remember that is the MAX reported speed on what they "tested" to be. You should think of getting a sata 3 pci-e raid card or something.

I switched from the onboard Marvell ports to the onboard Intel ports.

Did the forums that you found the original Marvell issue on have anything to say about the Intel ports??? Also make sure you are running the latest Intel RST drivers/software if needed.

The threshold of a single SATA2 connection is 3Gbps, which equates to 375MB/s. I'm getting ~530MB/s and 560MB/s on a RAID0 setup, meaning that each connection is providing approximately 265MB/s and...

I think that the advertised speeds for your SSD are seriously exaggerated and that you are in fact getting double the true speed with your RAID0 array.

There's no way that a mechanical 7200 rpm is going to surpass half your single drive read speed, (420 divided by two is 210 mbps and you'd be lucky to get half that from a regular HD) and your SSD's...

I'm no expert about trim and I also have two SSDs in RAID0, and what I would like to know is what are the losses that would occur with no trim and what is "awhile". Are we talking a month, a year,...

That first gen Marvell SATA III controller is the bottleneck. http://www.overclock.net/t/1198599/mobo-evga-sli3-x58-crucial-m4-in-sata3-marvel-port-or-sata2-intel-port-please-help...

Do you really need SSDs in RAID 0 that badly? Cut your losses and return/sell one of the SSDs and enjoy the performance of a single SSD. Most RAID controllers won't pass the TRIM command to SSDs in...

Those are difficult questions to answer. First of all, some drives (Kingston V100+) have full-time garbage collection routines that run without TRIM. Some people have claimed that the speed boost...

That's the only reason I could see for it. Then again I never thought gamers were a rational bunch of people when they were out spending $400 for a video card. :D

So I've been at this for hours...my motherboard is an eVGA X58 SLI3 with the Marvell SATA3 controller and I'm using this drive (x2 for RAID0). I used the preinstall driver before I installed Windows,...

Just got this response over on the eVGA forums: "The marvell controller on the x58 boards are not "true" SATA3 due to being connected to the chipset through the pcie x1 lane. The pcie x1 lane...

A SATA link actually transmits 10 bits for every 8 bits of data, so a SATAII 3Gbps link is really only going to be able to transmit at a data rate of 300MBs. Still doesn't explain why you are not...

If that's the case--then a single drive wouldn't even be maxing out a single SATA2 threshold...seems unlikely IMO.

Updated my OP...any thoughts?

You're never going to see 750MB/s, go look at some benchmarks out there for comparison. Also now that you've switched to the intel chipset is it an onboard chipset or a pci express card and if it...

We've already discussed this Rocky. There is performance degradation, but not much, maybe 20% at the absolute top end with 5% max being normal. Obviously the performance hit would increase as you...
