Wow great deal for a Marvell drive :). Too bad I already picked up a M4 the other day... although might pick this one up for my sister's laptop...

Newegg was selling these on ebay yesterday for $150, no rebates required. Just so you're aware. ...

Ughh, why do all the SSD deals have to be from NewEgg? Tax kills this deal, since Amazon is at $149.99, it's cheaper from Amazon at that point :/

Thanks lightfoot. For cost-effectiveness then, what do you think is the optimal way to go? Is the OCZ Vertex Plus a good way to go then? Deal reference: ...

plextor is a very solid drive. read anandtech for it. 5 year is extremely useful. just had a OCZ went sudden death on me last night.
This or the Vertex 4? Both are technically Marvell controllers (the OCZ one is a Marvell controller with custom Indilinx firmware). Both are similar in terms of speed, both have 5 year...

Thanks Rider. Glad I'm understood on some of the "internets" :D Its actually cheaper now at newegg business with a coupon code and no rebate.

Yeah, same price as today, but with a rebate too. I'm 98% the drive type does not matter, just form factor for the mac. I would get Plextor/Intel/Samsung/Crucial for reliability. All SSDs are...

Sorry to be a nuisance, but do you think this drive is worth it even if my computer can only handle SATA 1.5gb/s? Thought it might be a bit overkill to have the SATA3 if I could possibly get a 120gb...

This would still be faster. The limiting factor on the bus is when you are moving large amounts of data from one hard drive or ssd to another. Very rarely will you see uses where there will be over...

I was going to order one, but a question came up that I'd like to ask about before I do so. - the rebate form isn't available on neweggbiz. does that mean it won't be honored if submitted with a...

This one is the way to go. Look at the reviews and failure rates. This drive has a .56% failure rate. OCZ won't even list theirs (that I can find) I actually expected this to go front page. ...

I didn't mean intel is all better, only to point out what you said that this is faster than intel, the benchmark doesn't seem agree with you. So far, all tracking record shows sandforce controller...

Damn I feel ya man. I'm still on the fence with this deal. My buddy can get me a discount for corsair ssds, and I can get a Corsair Performance Series Pro 128GB, which has the same controller as...

controller is half the story, the other half is the firmware (sort like graphic card's driver, if you catch the drift) with marvell controller, the frimware is very important. in fact, the higher...

Similar to an M4, I would put this drive a touch ahead in overall "goodness" if we put them head to head (more warranty and cache on the Plextor and ever so slightly faster)

I love the M3S series. Even the M2 series are awesome. Much better than SF crap. I bought the 256 GB M3S over the Crucial M4 because of the larger cache size, True Speed technology, faster read &...

Nice. I've always liked Plextor. They made great CD-R drives back when those were a big deal.

Wait, your 90th SSD purchase? I'm assuming those are all for home use? hehe.

Right, there is no rebate for there. It is cheaper by $5 with code at newegg biz then with newegg and MIR.

The reference to Intel is of the rebate response time. The drive is very quick, that intel one you mentioned uses sandforce too, so I'm still not sold it will have the same reliability as this or...

This drive used the same Marvell 9174 as the Crucial M4, but different firmware and NAND. At least Intel's firmware is better than OCZ's, so is their customer service.

I think you mean use the same controller. Some companies might use the same firmware, but we probably wouldn't know it since they all have their own naming conventions. You are 100% correct though....

My bad, I didn't click on the deal--figured the rebate was larger than $10. If it was $20-$40, I'd have just as soon paid $10 more without rebate. Oh well.

Bought one of these back in February finally installed it a few weeks ago. Seems ok can't make myself fully migrate to it still dual booting with previous install.
Do you have a source for the 0.56% failure rate?

the new OCZ Vertex 4 has the same controller as the M4, doesn't it? That should greatly improve the reliability

Anybody know if this would be good in a 2006 MBP 2.16 Core 2 Duo as the only drive? I know it's limited by it's bus speed of only 1.5gb/s, so SATA 3 is definitely overkill, but can I find a better...
