You have to manually select to upload original images in a web browser. IIRC, you can batch upload 200 images at a time with IE. AFAIK, syncing or auto uploads still resize the pictures.

for the many files thing, it depends on how many connections they let you have to the server. And with par files, there's no magic, you still need the same amount of data rebuild the original......
