Is it possible to clone a laptop drive to a USB external portable drive as a backup?

Yes, I couldn't agree with you more there. Using SSDs is like riding a motorcycle, it's not a matter of if you will fall, it's a matter of when you will fall. The lower p/e cycle is a bona fide...

This whole discussion went stupid. I've been in the computer business for over 40 years, so I think I have a good handle on the differences between hardware and firmware. That was never part...

You contend that there is no evidence to suggest the Vertex 4 SSD is more reliable and I cannot agree with you more. I have never claimed that the Vertex 4 SSD is more reliable, I said that OCZ now...

Your google fu is weak because you're just reading OCZ's marketing gibberish where they basically suggested that it was their own controller, when in fact it's actually a Marvell controller that they...

intel seems to be the last holdout on lowering the prices on these ssds and I think they will be coming down a little bit more soon
Post #49524082 added 04-24-2012 9:39 AM by tenkay in Archived Deals
It is. In fact some of these SSD's come as a kit with a little usb external enclosure and a piece of software to make a duplicate. You put your SSD in the enclosure, boot the cd, image the drive,...

At well over $1/GB, not a good deal.

Two weeks and they will drop to 125.00

Yeah, I don't doubt that at all. I've seen Samsung 830s near $1/GB and they're as reputable as the Intel 520s.

who would have guess that SSD would flame such heated debate. this isnt to convince you to buy or not. If you want a SSD and can afford it buy it. Intel charges more for a premium due to their...

hmm. samsung 830 was priced at 139 dollar, not sure why 520 at 149 is a better deal.

 Yes, you should be careful and not stupid and avoid static. You don't need to go overboard. Use a clean, hard surface to stand on and to put the computer on. Get a rubber mat to stand on....

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=intel+520+bsod QED. Take some time to look at the ones from Intel's own forum. Again, keep in mind that the Intel 520 has only been released for less than 3 months. As...

Not to intrude here but OCZ, patriot, corsair (except for the performance pro and the vertex 4, which still has yet to establish a track record with its new controller) are ruining the SSD tech...

I don't know about the others, but with a recent "STRONGLY RECOMMENDED" update like this for the m4, I'd say the m4 has been tarnished:

The 330 has faster write speeds, though. It's not a successor?
Post #49514870 added 04-23-2012 10:19 PM by shanpdx in Archived Deals
from Anandtech article 520 has 5000 Program Erase Cycle - so 5 year warranty - it could be either 34nm or 25nm NAND 330 has 3000 Program Erase Cycle so 3 year warranty - it has 25nm NAND.
Post #49515262 added 04-23-2012 10:38 PM by shanpdx in Archived Deals
I think 5 Year Warranty and Intel's reputation even though it is based on SandForce based.

$134.99 at Newegg Business is hard to beat, nice find. The return policy is "Limited Replacement Only Return Policy" not "Iron Egg" which may mean another price cut to come.
