As someone else mentioned, it's typically a polarized screen. So half the lines go to your right eye and half the lines your left eye. But don't worry, your brain does a pretty good job at merging...

No. It's not a interlaced 1080p image. It's two interleaved 540p images. One eye sees the right image, one eye sees the left image. The brain merges both images into one 3D image that's 540p.

It's probably treating 1080p like a TV signal for you and your video card is most likely set to underscan (to offset TVs typical overscan). Should be a simple setting adjustment to fix it.

I think in 3D mode half of the pixels go to the right eye and half go to the left eye? I don't know if that is right, just my guess.
