I don't know if it works for brewing but aluminum is much cheaper than stainless and you can definitely get a 40 quart pot for < $75.

Go to a local restaurant supply store. They sell to the public too. You could also check craigslist and freecycle.org for a cheap (or free) one. Another good place to check is the local charity shops...
