The Apple TV's once jailbroken have Couch Surfer, which is a browser. I've only started it up a couple times so I can't comment on how easy it is to use really.

I like my WDTV live plus.(with the B-Rad firmware) It has it all except the browser. if you need a browser then just go get a pc and hook it up to the tv.

The Boxee Box has a reasonable browser. It's also excellent at playing local media and provides metadata for local movies and TV shows. It's not cheap though.

I prefer the Roku because its smaller and you can get one thats connect with standard RCA connectors or hdmi...thus making it able to be used on ANY tv (unless you still have the huge wooden box set...

I'm very much in favor of the laptop and wireless keyboard option. I've got a 5 year old laptop hooked up to the tv and a $30 logitech k400 wireless keyboard touchpad combo and couldn't be happier.

I also love my WD TV live plus. Only reason I got it, was because I wanted to play MKV files. Found a 2 tb external HD at a pawnshop for a steal ($50) and it was FULL of MKV movies... haha! ...

I think there are two options. You can navigate the on-screen "keyboard" with the arrow keys on the remote (pita), or you can use the android/iOS app on your smartphone.
