If you connect your TV output via RCA you are only sending an analog signal to the receiver, so you won't be getting the surround signal which the receiver can then decode and send to your rear...

I think you'll get a lot more from the Onkyo for the price. Not sure how cheap you can find the NR 609 for now, but the HT-RC360 is on sale at newegg for $280. Very similar feature set to the NR609....
