I know which thread I've read because the font becomes normal, as opposed to bold for the threads I haven't read. Or you can go as far as ignoring the threads as others have suggested.

No. 0-49 reps = 100 ignorable threads. 50-99 = 200 100+ = 300 At least those were my observations from another thread in site issues and suggestions.

I just reply to the threads with a "Thanks" - then if I see the little pencil on the icon, I know I've entered that contest. Works great.

Just ignore the threads you don't want to see. Don't reply 'Thanks'. To ignore a thread, click on the grey circle to the left of the 'Thread Started' date.
