It works for me for Prometheus. Are you selecting a 3D or IMAX movie (not 3D and IMAX together though)? Worked for me.

Movieticket.com at least for me only sells for a few theatres mostly the smaller ones. but not hte bigger ones with imax/3d fandango allows me all the bigger ones that actually has imax/3d stuff...

It can only be used on movies with IMAX or 3D. Small theaters don't have these and tickets for these are much more expensive like $12-18 in my area.
