You're probably better off buying Logitech Z-2300's or whichever is their current high end 2.1's, I'd be willing to bet they're better than most HTIB's.

Even if it does sound over hdmi it might limit it to 2 channel. Laptop HDMI sucks.
You can get a decent sound card with an optical out and connect that to your speaker system.

Music isnt played in surround sound anyways. You could always get 4 studio speakers and split them off the stereo output. 2 front 2 back.
