The 32gb may have a newer chipset. I cant find a version of alcor mp or fc_mptool that recognizes the chipset.

They're not really defective, they're fraudulent. The manufacturer took 8 GB drives and flashed them to appear as if they hold 32 GB when they do not. It's very likely that all of them will be bad.
