They designed this case to break if you try to open it. That's why there's no tamper resistant stickers sealing it - I don't know of any other way besides to break about a dozen plastic retaining...

there is only 1 year warranty anyway. If the drive runs good with a few days without any issues, I would crack it open. Of course, turn off APM as well.

Go to the Costco Store and Buy the 3TB Seagate External USB 3.0 for $129.00 open the case that is fairly easy and use the bare drive then you have and extra USB 3.0 docking station that also works...

Seagate quality is always a huge risk. I suggest buying the extended warranty from Newegg but realize that the terms on the warranty are mediocre (I believe you can only RMA once within the warranty...

My previous Seagate drives both died just outside the warranty. My WD drives are humming along nicely with 5 year warranties. One died recently and WD quickly replaced it with a new one.
