These gave me both the closest shave and the most-sliced-up face I've ever had. Definitely not an easy adjustment from modern razors. I never got used to it.

I like the astra sp, smooth blade and not too irritating. Once you've been shaving for a bit I would give feathers a try, although I wouldn't recommend starting with them. It took me about 4-5 months...

The numbers can be used to keep track of how many shaves you've had with the blade by turning it and flipping it, but I dont think anyone uses them. Flipping the blade makes no difference otherwise.

Using your regular shaving gel will make no difference but there's no way in hell you can use this on your face in the shower unless your stall has full length mirrors that never fog up.
