Unless you are doing video editing there is no reason to toss out 2 2gb chips and buys 2 4gb ones. Most systems will run fine on 4 gb of ram

That's definitely the best way to make your system boot faster and stop unnecessary services.
Be careful though when disabling services... especially as a novice user.
