I really don't see how the shield could have ended differently. I thought it was perfect. Very deep meaning. Spoiler: EDITED Battlestar ending was definitely worse. It was sopranos bad.

I liked the show because it had a lot of great moments and how the characters developed from the beginning till the end like Lt. Felix Gaeta, but the series as a whole, I didn't like so much.

One of the shoddiest designed sets ever made for DVD. Sony had to deal with a massive level of returns for this set as it is very tough to get a complete set with all working discs.
