I think you meant "Lifetime Maps (North America, incl. Canada & Puerto Rico)" I'm looking for a Garmin with Lifetime maps that includes Mexico and I don't think this one is it. Good find though....

I have tried the google offline navigation, and it didn't work. You still need wifi/3G data to START navigate, then it will continue to navigate without data. I always have a TomTom as back up.

Google maps supports offline data now. You can download a large chunk of map that you typically are in over wifi and it stores it locally so you dont need to use much data for navigation.

Good list and here's another reason: 5. Sometimes you need navigation where there is no cell coverage to feed your smart phone with map data. Sadly, this is when you need standalone GPS the most.
