With WHS you can stream movies to other devices such as a roku box ( for a small one time fee) or I can to my Dish receiver, it is fun to bore people with vacation pics on a 65" tv :)

WHS, OMV, FreeNAS are the main contenders here. WHS is definitely the least hassle, then probably FreeNAS, then probably OMV.

Ditto file sharing.... home server sounds "nice" but in reality just doing sharing works and saves energy. I can stream to XBox or my sony SNP player or other computers. No need for a server.
