To my knowledge these JEDEC standards apply to both SO-DIMM (laptop RAM) and DIMM (desktop RAM). Am I missing something?

Not so, recently Newegg, Tiger Direct, and Newegg (again) had Patriot 4GB ddr3-1333 for $10 AR, limit one. When you need something, though, it seems that way.

the flaw is you're implying there are CL7/8 SO-DIMMS widely available, and there aren't so CL9 is typical which was the response to the original question have been deals for 1866Mhz, but...
