I have basically the same set-up...I use DVI to 23" monitor and VGA to a 32" Samsung 720P TV and SPDIF from PC to receiver for sound. But, I use the monitor for PC apps and the TV for stock charts...

Obviously, HDMI is the best way but I couldn't fit the entire scenario in the title. I have a 32" 720P HDTV that I want to use as the main monitor on a dual monitor setup, along with my 19" LCD...

You should try both. I got the best picture with VGA, but I did not have 2 DVI's, just 1 DVI and 1 VGA from the graphics card.

I ended up using DVI->VGA on my television because I couldn't turn off overscan. My TV is from 08, so that may have had something to do with it.
