Yes it does. You can switch from clutch, drill, and hammer mode by turning the clutch dial. Yes, Lithium ion is better but you will have to pay more for that.

You forgot the main advantage of Li-ion: light weight. That's the first thing you'll notice when comparing two drills with these different technologies. I've had both, but I'll not go back to...

Went for it. Needed to replace my Ryobi drill.

I own both a Hitachi corded hammer drill and a cordless Hitachi hammer drill which is very similar to the model listed here (although what I have is Li-on and not Ni-Cad). The cordless makes a great...

Post #51923320 added 07-25-2012 8:23 AM by hightop32 in Archived Deals
 I disagree. You can work 20% longer with less hand and arm fatigue with a lighter tool (that also provides more power throughout the charge cycle). That weigh reduction is very nice...

More like 20% of the weight in most tools, but the percentage of total weight will vary with the tool. Both cells can be made in essentially any voltage, but the common Nicad cell is 1.2 V...

Thanks for breaking everything down. I guess I still have more to learn about li-ion. Concerning power density, why is it that with Li-ion you get a steady discharge rate until the charge is...

It's not really an issue in power tool applications - Li-ion is only around 20% lighter, a small percentage of the total weight of the tool. In many cases, the weight difference between a nicad...

They probably are hard to find now, but depending on where you live, they might still be out there. Easy way to tell is to try your stores on the Lowes website - change the "your store" to...

Had both batteries go south on me within 6 months with my last Hitachi kit.

Hitachi tools are great - but nicad is old school. Lithium is the way to go - alot lighter more power and lasts longer.
Post #51922448 added 07-25-2012 7:48 AM by decolores9 in Archived Deals
Not necessarily. Ni-Cad costs less, lasts longer, is less heat-sensitive and dies gradually, so you have some indication when the battery is getting weak, before it dies. Li-ion has greater...

Lithium Ion is better because it keeps a longer charge in a smaller package. I once bought a lithium Ryobi for work but decided to change jobs soon after. And decided to sell it because I knew I...

Do you mean "old school" as in the people that built the Great Wall of China and the Hoover Dam..so it wouldn't be good enough for the average homeowner?

not too much love for this deal.
Post #51938624 added 07-25-2012 6:47 PM by firelikeiya in Archived Deals
The battery is probably 50% of the weight of the tool... especially something as light duty as this. A li-ion battery only requires 5 cells to get 18v wheras a Ni-Cad would require 15 cells... big...

Fully discharging a Li-ion battery destroys it, so Li-ion battery packs have electronics to monitor charge level. When the charge drops to a threshold point, the electronics turn off the battery...

Because you get a hammer drill for its brute force at being able to make holes in tough material. It also soaks up battery life fairly quickly and for the few times you're going to need a hammer...

^^^ Agree 100%. For serious hammer drill tasks go corded.

Post #51921632 added 07-25-2012 7:16 AM by KA27 in Archived Deals
Grade A is better than Grade C. Grade A is usually more expensive than Grade C but not in this case for some reason. It maybe a price mistake so get it before they catch it.

Bit of a weakling in Tourque BPM At this price point you are far better off corded
