I just tried it. The number of followers doesn't appear to update (or be anything other than 0) until the page is manually refreshed.

Actually, the followers # doesn't show anything other than 0 until I click the number, see the list of followers, then refresh the original page.

I would also say that the button looks a lot like the "Original Poster' tag. (A feature that I like as well)

The follow feature doesn't expose your browsing activity. It notifies you when the person you're following makes a new thread.

Current you are able to disable notifications to specific users that are following you. The count for the "Community Mom" is better now.
This should be fixed with auto update of follow count...
