From talking to chainsaw aficionados the way you can tell the American and Swedish saws apart is by their muffler. They apparently have 2 separate muffler designs.

The 435 I bought is made in Sweden. I also own a Poulan "Wild Thing" which is about the same size. The 435 is a much better saw in many ways.
