i have a 10 foot coaxial cable (provided by comcast) thats hooked up to the cable box and another 30 foot cable lying loose and need to connect these two. is there a way this can be done or...

You can barrel them together with one of these. Usually you want to avoid using them but there shouldn't be any problems with.

Try a barrel first. If you have trouble with your cable set top box or your cable modem, try the 50 foot cable.

If not a barrel, then get a Y splitter if you can afford to lose a few decibels with the connection.
