I have a white Ooma that I bought from Radioshack 2 years ago. Right now the hardware is sitting unused as I'm using Obihai via google voice but when my Ooma was connected the call quality was good.

What area code are you talking about? Some Area Code Overlay area (ex. 408/669 starting 10/2012), it is REQUIRED to dial 1+area code first even though the phone number you dial is in the same area...
