Each of these reels are great for pier fishing. I wouldnt use them for deep sea fishing though.

how is this compared to the okuma reels. okuma has 6 ball bearings and has been my go to. i prefer a leatherman over that since the functions on a leatherman are so versatile

Yes braid is great.. I use 15# powerpro on all my surf fishing reels and just use a fluoro leader. As for trout fishing.. I guess I've been using fluoro line all my life when finicky trout and clear...

The Sellus rod looks fine, but a bit expensive for your purpose. I'd look at the Shimano Scabard or Stimula rods at Sport chalet. You can probably buy 2 of them for the price of your Sellus Maybe...
