only issue this would cause is with cheap power supplies that don't regulate the voltage well if you start to load them.. it's fine to short the 2 data pins when connecting to a computer, no damage...

Just get a car or wall adapter that shorts those pins. Not reason to carry a special cable that you can't use for data. Some wall/car adapters can only handle outputting 500ma, tricking the device...
