Nope, it's like a punt, ball will turn over to the opposing team whether hit or miss. Only reason why you would see a team try to get a FG on 1st or 2nd down is if it's late, they want to get the FG...

If the ball is kicked, it becomes the opposing team's ball. Anything else; fumble, run or pass (as long as they maintain possession) allows them to still have downs to use provided they do not pass...
