I use WebcamXP Pro with motion detection enabled to record from 2 foscam cameras. People also like BlueIris.

How good is one of these to monitor a baby/toddler instead of one of those video monitor systems?
Post #52603694 added 08-20-2012 12:37 PM by CJO in Archived Deals
OK- thanks. I guess it depends on what you need. The example videos here: https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=52600024&postcount=17 look pretty good for keeping an eye on the house. CJ

Couple of questions. Is this weatherproof? And is it able to shoot live feed + record to a HD?

Those cameras are junk. I have two of them and picture quality is just ridiculous for 2012. You have been warned.

Yes. Last weeks deal of 2 for $159 got a 10+ TU rating. I'd say this is slightly better on price @$146 for 2, and no need to buy two. Now, what is a good DVR for these?

No good through a window at night. All you will see is the IR lights reflecting off of the glass.
Post #52632968 added 08-21-2012 12:18 PM by stgermaine in Archived Deals
One nice thing about the foscam (vs the wansview) is that you can turn off the IR, which comes in handy for viewing outside from behind the window. Word. It took me three days and probably 10...

It is not mine, but yeah...it's good to watch if for no other reason, just to have seen the process once before you have to do it yourself. If you know how to forward ports on your router, it's...

Has anyone tried to hook these up to a Raspberry Pi running Linux? I was thinking for about $50 (Pi $35 + $15ish for 32gb SD card) you could make a cheap DVR running ZoneMinder to go along with these.
Post #52610122 added 08-20-2012 4:58 PM by TheEdge in Archived Deals
Weatherproof? No. Can you use it outdoors under cover where it won't be exposed to the elements? Yes. Yes, it can stream live and "free record" and/or do alarm recordings via motion sensors.
