Whats funny (and unfortunate in a few ways) is if the i3 wasnt locked it they could hit 4-5GHz and mop the floor with pretty much any AMD processor in existence (but alas they are indeed locked down)

No. Just no. I know you're basing your information on what you read at tomshardware and such, and up until I built a sandy bridge g630 system I assumed games didn't need a quad core cpu at all,...

And you're still talking out of your butt. I'm playing Guild Wars 2 right now with a C2D E8400 at 1920 x 1080 on Best Appearance settings (everything High) and it runs just fine. Games are still,...

Oh I guess I must be wrong then, you clearly said so. I guess I someone snuck in here and changed my cpu or lowered my video settings. Oh well, back to my GW2 on a dual core cpu running JUST FINE. ...
I guess an OK deal if you are without a micro center or frys. Per item cost $75 AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2GHz Quad-Core BE CPU OEM $55 ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS AMD 760G AM3+ Motherboard $40 Corsair...

I just bought one of these processors for my son who plays online minecraft. What can you overclock this processor to? Is it pretty straightforward to do under BIOS settings?
This all depends on what you want to spend and if you have usable older parts. If you are an intel fan then the options for you on the low end are the G860 which is around $90 for the CPU or for a...

If DVI is important there's a nearly identical system based on the GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2P AMD 760 AM3+ mobo. You give up one of the pcie x2 slots but get very decent on-chip graphics + DVI and save...

Ok everyone here is comparing this to the i3. Which is fine, we are suppose to compare comparable products to see if its the best deal for the buyer. However, how much would it cost to build an...

No offense but what you just said isn't exactly correct. Gaming performance has less to do with Dual-core vs Quad-core than with how powerful your graphics card is. Most of the time, if you're...
Since you asked: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html If we believe Tom's chart then the i3 2100 is two levels better at gaming than a 955BE but not...

Maybe you were using an older i3? The reason I mentioned gaming on an i3 2100 is because I have game on one pretty often and I play battlefield just fine fine at ultra settings with a gtx 460.

Spend $40 more and get an i5 2500k. The improvement ceases to be marginal ... especially once you OC.

Seriously, next to no games are multithreaded at all, and the ones that are spin off something menial like the sound engine.

Define "beat". The i3-2100 loses in 16/30 tests and ties 1 test from your link (wins 13/30). When I built a computer for my work I was choosing between an i3-2100 and a Phenom 2 955. I chose the...

I agree, I wouldn't mess with an I3, but he wanted pricing on an I3. Since I live near a micro center I believe in going cheap: $90 965BE with BioStar A960G AM3+ or spending a little more: $265...

Can I get a heck yeah!!! Ultra is ultra awful. Especially since most of the debate here is about overclocking. Overclocking with an ultra power supply is asking to replace your entire system.
