You can definitely have the dual boot but it won't always be accessible by F keys, so if yours doesn't, you have two options. One is to go into the bios to change the hard drive priority each time...

Thats the way I set mine up and yes it should default to the SSD on SATA 0, and then if you want to boot to the other OS use F12. You may need to check Bios to make sure the boot order is correct.

Sounds good. I will do this in a little bit. I tried to clarify this with dell chat and they insisted the recovery DVD's also would only be the OS. Which wouldn't make sense. We will see.

I've never received a Dell, not even my Inspiron PC, that didn't come with the driver/utility disc. Are you sure it's not still in the box or with all the papers?

its not the same though. Dell's office trial includes full non expiring versions of MS word and Excel. Yes I know open office is free---but I prefer word and excel.

Sounds like you don't have the boot order set in BIOS. Are you sure you have USB or DVD set as first boot device and then save changes before exit. Just go ahead and burn the DVD's. It doesn't hurt...

That's what I thought too, but Gdog says he uses the F keys to the boot menu, and the USB drive and DVD still get skipped over in favour of the SSD, so they must not be bootable.

Rocky...your probably right...just can't understand why it won't boot. Gdog....you say that you formatted the USB drive to NTFS...the Dell program formats it during the creation of the restore...

The recovery DVD disks included the bloat software i.e. Roxio etc. for me. I would think that using USB should be no different then the DVD set. Did it install a recovery hidden partition as well?...
