non-standard battery (18650 battery) not appealing. I'm sure there is a reason but I like to be able to pop in some AA batteries in a pinch when the flashlight is low.

In a dark theater it would DEFINITELY do the trick. I've got an LD20 (2AA light) and the PD31 (basically the same as this deal but the switch is on the tail) and either one would handle that...

yes, we read that. still, i much prefer to have flashlights that use only aa or aaa so i don't have to have yet another type of battery around. especially when camping.
