Lost somewhere in this discussion is that the 24-105L is built much better than non-L lenses in the same focal length category (e.g., 28-135). This is my main walkaround lens for my 20D.

Great price on this lens. They go for about this price on CL, so if you jump on this deals and are not satisfied with the lens (believe me you will be) then you can always sell at no lost. However,...

I'd strongly suggest looking at the Tamron 17-50 F/2.8. Great quality, less than 1/2 the price of the Canon 17-55. Very happy with it, myself. Keep in mind, the differences in full-frame and...

Even for "not a pro", that's ridiculous. There's plenty of sharpness at the longer focal lengths of this lens.

Not to mention it has focus distance scale and 77mm filter size. Most people hate 77mm filter size but I love it because all my filters are 77mm and I can use them on this lens without stepup rings.

If this is really true, you have a bad lens and should send it to Canon for repair. If anything, it's typically a touch soft on the wide end, wide open. Otherwise it is very sharp.
