I don't disagree, but I remember when I used to spend $100 on a camera... and to spend $200 on a lens... it's a tough sell for some. I should say, it is a tough sell when explaining it to your wife....

from what i read, it only adds correction data and fixed a small glitch, but does not allow the 5D3 to continuous AF during video (and take advantage of STM)

The 40mm f/2.8 is sharper across the frame @ f/2.8 than either the 50mm f/1.4 or 50mm f/1.8, but as soon as either of them are stopped down to f/4, they're substantially sharper than the 40mm f/2.8....

Yeah... that A640 wouldn't be worth it to fix most likely. The LCD would easily cost you at least half of the used cost of working one if not more.

This should be an easer lens that the 50mm F1.4/F1.8 for a beginner.
While the wider aperature is fun it can be VERY challenging to get the focus correct, especially on anything moving at F1.4....

The lens is not going to make more noise on a T3i.
The continuous/improved autofocus during video will only work on T4i. The lens is still not completely silent, just makes less noise.
