If you're referring to the offer at the top of the Wirefly page, I believe that's for people who activate a phone on a T-Mobile prepaid plan, not on VM.

For me, the 3G is a battery killer. I use the Power Toggle widget to turn it off when I am not using it. For now, we are all waiting patiently for a custom rom.
