For a newborn you Either can use the infant insert (sold separately) or a blanket rolled up under the butt with the legs in a froggy position. I would not put a 7 week olds legs in the openings.

Return it. I research a lot about baby wearing and the Bjorn is awful for you and the baby. If you go look into baby wearing forums you'll find that a Bjorn is a big no no.
