I look at debt-to-income ratios (151%) and home ownership (>70%) ratios.
Both are higher now in Canada than it was in the US during the height of your crisis.
But apparently, it's different up...

Freddie and Fannie protect the banks to some extent, they do not prevent the borrower from not being liable for the deficiency balance.
