ok, one last question. :) What do you think about the 430 EX vs the 430EX II? I definitely want a flash w/ the infrared focus light - which they both have. Can both be controlled from my T3...

The 50 is an excellent lens for low-light portraits, and should be great for photographing your daughter. I would also use it over the kit lens (nearly) every time. Down the road you may want to...

Thanks! I'll look at it if my 50mm quits on me. In the meantime, I'm really enjoying my 1st dslr. I originally bought it for low light photos. I just had a baby and I don't want to use a flash in...

Good question, and the answer is ultimately a matter of opinion - some would disagree with me. With that said, the 40mm 2.8 has a much higher build quality than the 50mm, with a metal mount...

www.snapsort.com is a great way to compare camera models (even different manufacturers, i.e. canon t3i vs. nikon d5100). Here's the T3 vs. T3i: http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-T3-vs-Canon-T3i

Newbie here. Why the 40mm over the 50mm? edit: I have this camera w/ the kit lens and the nifty 50. Paid $300 for body & zoom lens and $50 for the 50mm. (both used)

eBay... we got ours for $600 after rebate, and sold the T3i for $620 free shipping. sitting on the printer until after the rebate expires, when the market will slow down, and prices should rise....

I wish so bad there'd be a T3i deal that doesn't include a rebate! I'd gladly pay a little extra if I didn't have to pay out an extra $400 up front and wait for a rebate.

Are there going to be any more T3i deals before the $400 coupon expires? I was so bummed browsing through the past deals to see how many T3i deals I'd missed, and this coupon is expiring in about 6...

If you're just starting out, it won't make a major difference. At first. The T3i offers a lot more room for growth, whereas if you start to realize you really enjoy photography and want to explore it...
