Agreed, as I just did ;P Still, a good deal for those with CUDA dependant programs. Theyre not very far apart in preformance.

Good price for a overclocked GTX 660.

My nephew purchased this card a week ago and it runs HOT HOT.. I don't understand why these cards get so heated.. compared to the ATI Sapphire 7850 or 7870 which I've used both.. you can barely hear...

I believe so, yes. But you might see things tighten up with Steam for Linux being released in a few months.
The 660 and 7870 average out to be almost identical performance with variation between games and scaling similarly on resolutions above 1920x1200. He was probably thinking of the 660 Ti which...

192 bit, no thanks. Data path widths are essential for speed. 256 bit or higher for this monkey.

I was afraid of that...even with 8gb ram, q6600, and a ssd?

Wait for black friday. This model was just released, so the markdown on it has just begun.

that article only applies to the 660ti and 670pe.. this deal is for the regular 660 which uses a different GPU

Faster, cooler and quieter but not worth the upgrade unless you can sell your 480 for $125+ imo.

wouldn't the 7870 for 200 AR be better than this?

one more question: nvidia seems to perform better on linux over ati, is that the general consensus?

What card are you coming from? The 6xx's already have a crazy memory clock, so 192bit bus really isnt a bottleneck if you're used to last gen's 256bit card

guys am I better off getting another gtx 460 (sli) or getting ONE of these babies? which setup would perform better?
Post #53551894 added 09-28-2012 11:36 AM by Castaa in Archived Deals
They'd be roughly the same, however the GTX 660 has 2 GB of memory. I'd go with the GTX 660 for sure.

Don't listen to these guys. Upgrade away, it'll make a big difference even with a PCI-E 1.0 (16 slot lane): http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Ivy_Bridge_PCI-Express_Scaling/23.html ...

Unsound advice, he definitely needs to overhaul the whole system. If he is unwilling or unable to upgrade his ancient setup he could easily pull similar performance from a $100 card, why blow $200. ...

It happens when frames drop to around 50 FPS or less. You'll realize it once you try using something like a GTX 580 instead of your 460 SLI setup.

I have two 6850s should I sell them (I can get at least 200 from the pair) and get this?

In general? No, it isn't. In some specific games it may be. GTX 660 vs HD 7870 With the $200 AR 7870 being slightly cheaper and including the Sleeping Dogs bundle, I would definitely go with...

Here is a good review, which puts it somewhere above the 7870 in some cases and between the 7870 and 7850 in others. Definitely a step up from the 7850, but maybe about on par with the 7870 overall....

I just upgraded out of that.... the mighty Q6600 glory days are over. I have a Abit board coupled with a 8800GT. Unless your Q6600 is heavily overclocked, like 3.5GHZ+, I wouldn't even bother...

I was running a GTX 460 2win for some time on a Q9550 and 6GB RAM(OC'ed to 3.6Ghz and RAM running 900Mhz), the performance increase is substantial, over a single overclocked 460. Its safe to say my...

It all depends on what graphics card he's upgrading from and to a lesser degree, the resolution of his display. A $100 card is something around a Radeon 7750 level of performance. I'm assuming given...
Post #53561312 added 09-28-2012 6:22 PM by calc in Archived Deals
That's what my very comment hinges on. If the intent is to keep the Q6600 then he's essentially paying $200 to use only a portion of what the card is capable of with his current setup vs getting...

Decent price. If I didn't pick-up a 670, I would have bought this deal.

Yeah it doesn't seem to happen to all cards in SLI and I didn't see full systems on enough of the people experiencing the issues to tell if it could be a power issue. My cards are not matching, a...
