In the event of a fire evacuation are your leased equipment boxes on your emergency list of things to grab on the way out? I recently read an article where people had their houses burned down in a...
it was on the comsumerist forum recently before their big 'hushed' hacking/update of 2012. might have been on DSLReports too.

If someone were to take you to court to make you pay for the value of an item that was destroyed, missplaced, etc. then depreciation would be used to calculate the amount you owe the original owner...

A. Homeowners insurance should cover it. B. Legally they can only recoup the present day value, with depreciation, of the item. C. In event of a fire, grab your pets and kids, not your electronics....

I agree 100%. If I had time I would probably grab my PC tower/NAS but its all backed up in the cloud anyways.

The issue clearly isn't compensation for property loss, rather demanding insanely excessive compensation on something that is valued at a few hundred bucks at most, probably less if you take into...

What they charge (MSRP or whatever) is immaterial to this scenario, the subscriber is responsible for the equipment whether it is stolen, lost, broken or burned up. The provider has two states for...

Actually what they charge is material since legally they are only responsible for the value of the equipment at the time of the fire. But of course, you either didn't read or completely ignored my...

Depreciation is for tax purposes. Even if the device is full depreciated by Verizon, it still has value. While the "bill" itself is a civil matter between you and who gives you the bill, you...

I am not sure why this is a bad thing. Are they just supposed to eat the loss for something you are responsible for? It is not wrong, neither morally or legally to expect you to pay for the box if it...
in the article i remember reading that verizon contacted the customer and said the CSR was wrong and do to the circumstances the loss charges should have been waived, but only after consumerists...
Verizon: Sorry About Devastating Fire, Pay Us $2,345

The value of the equipment is hardly subjective, you just take the MSRP and tack on a depreciation formula based on how old the equipment is. The depreciation amount might be considered subjective,...

wow that's a real shitty thing to do. Although I can imagine that this has happened, I can't imagine that the customers actually had to pay what the providers thought was the "real" value of the...
