Same here - I love reading on the ipad, esp. on the plane or in bed with the lights out. It doesn't work well in bright sunlight, but other than that I could read all day long on it.

It would have to be hours and hours for it to bother me. The thing that bothers me on the iPad2 and other older tablets is the low resolution. For text a high DPI is a must.

For books it's a must. Web pages are fine since you aren't sitting there for hours reading just text with no pictures. Don't get me wrong, it's doable for some people, but it just annoys the hell out...

The backlit screen doesn't bother you when reading for extended periods of time? This is the only gripe I've heard when it comes to iPad vs. a non-backlit eReader.
