Full credit to anothauserhere, who identified last week's deal. Both a new rebate this week as well as Micro Center reactivating the web discount on a broader set of motherboards, $50 instant...

Very similar to the motherboard Tom's Hardware chose for their last $500 system builder marathon. Probably a very good choice for the money.

I'm mostly interested in the Gigabyte GA-H61N-USB3, as GigE, USB 3, and HDMI are features that are important to me.

Yes, most of them will require a BIOS upgrade from the original BIOS. However, some of them will come preflashed, I've actually installed an Ivy on an Intel H61 board with an older BIOS and it did...

Does anyone have experience with H61 motherboards and Ivy bridge? I've read at various places that most of them require BIOS updates to accept IB CPUs and given that I don't have a SB to use to...

I bought the i3 combo with free ASRock mainboard: http://www.microcenter.com/product/388089/H61M-HVS_H61_1155_mATX_Intel_Motherboard in Houston store. The board already has the updated firmware...

I did on the last page...however, it is unfortunately sold out at the only MC near me.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this Gigabyte Motherboard as an option. http://www.microcenter.com/product/398418/GA-B75M-D3H_LGA_1155_mATX_Intel_Motherboard It comes with HDMI, Gigabit LAN, 2...

You didn't reference which specific motherboard, and it does vary. I believe with the title motherboard (the $120 + tax combo) rev 2.2 or 2.1 will likely come with the ivy compatible BIOS....

No, you'll spend more in gas than you will save on the board with the 4hr round trip.

Same concern here. The reviews for the Gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2 seem to indicate that people were able to plug in an i5/i7 without any issues. Edit: granted could be Sandy.

Unfortunately, all the links I'm finding online for the GA-H61N-USB3 are discussing users needing to manually flash the bios with a Sandy chip. I'm in the same boat and hoping the $120 combo will...

That's the same thing I've been considering, but I found this B75 board with gigE, HDMI, USB 3.0, and Sata 3 for $70 ($20 after discount):...

How good are MC's open box deals?

Computer distance, multiply by 0.5 and that's how many dollars gas+wear and tear on the car will cost you. Then add your time and decide.

Open box means no $50 mobo discount, not worth it.

This board is great match for the i3-3225 processor since it supports DDR3-1600 unlike the other H61 boards. Well worth the extra $20-$30 for all the added features it comes with.

Just got this today and it works perfectly. Make sure you get version 2.2 of the motherboard so you don't have to flash it with a sandy bridge celeron. The differences between the revisions are shown...

That's my thinking also. Do the manufacturers typically indicate BIOS level on the box? Or does it require booting the machine to find the BIOS level?
