I was wondering if I buy a few thousand of American Express gift cards will it count towards companion status on the southwest reward card or will they process it as a cash advance or something?

All gift cards I have purchase in the past did count..... Never really thought about that....... Free flights galore! Some visa gift cards also give you an option to cash out via check being mailed...

Just wanted to make sure it counted towards companion status? This is buying directly through americanexpress.com, I know citi wont give you points for purchases directly from Amex.

Note... After researching ..using the rr card you earn Earn 1,500 Tier Qualifying Points toward Status for every $10,000 you spend on the card (maximum of 15,000 Tier Qualifying Points annually).
